Our Farm

Raising Cattle Responsibly Since 2021

Everyday there are so many small moments that bring wonder into our lives. The sound of cows crunching on grass in a fresh paddock. The altitude of Mount Taylor poking up through clouds. Calves instinctively knowing where their milk supply is minutes after they are born.

We rotationally graze, calling the cattle to the next paddock. The Gelbvieh breed is quiet by nature making stock handling relatively stress free.

We aim for peace rather than perfection in our daily lives, cultivating a farm that is both productive and resilient.

Our Story

How we came to be.

LOOKING BACK

HOW WE FELL IN LOVE! This is not about us, we fell in love another life time ago. I conned Andrew into moving to East Gippsland, where I had grown up, with the pretence of having a home on the water with a boat and scenes of Banana lounges, cocktails, white clothes and deck shoes. Fast forward twelve years and here we are, on 105 acres at the foot of Mount Taylor, not a white bit of clothing to be seen, nor a banana lounge and the deck shoes have been swapped for steel capped gumboots! The alcohol is still consumed, however, now in the form of anything that is ‘on special’ from the big green shop. When we bought our place it had been destocked so we looked for ‘something to keep the grass down’. Andrew wanted Mohair goats and I set about looking for something we could watch as they grazed, like bucolic postcards. Eventually, we came across a Beef Week promotion in the Stock and Land and saw that a herd of Gelbvieh were being dispersed. We did some research, we went to look at them, we loved them at first sight and bought our first girls. True to the Gelbvieh traits that they are renowned for, we found Gelbvieh easy calvers, very maternal, good milkers, good doers and quiet temperament. What’s not to love?!

Using Gelbvieh and Red Angus Genetics to Create the Irresistible
Balancer

LOOKING FORWARD

It’s a slow game and we can’t wait to see results on the board.

Over the next few years our investment in Red Angus genetics will be seen in a robust beef animal ready to add to your breeding program, or finish off.

Our Gelbvieh stud will be kept for genetics and all the Gelbvieh breed has to offer.
